Parish Hears Good News
More than 80 people gathered Sunday to hear Father David's state of the parish mid-year report. He presented measurable progress on the goals set for 2009 and provided some exciting glimpses into the vision emerging for 2010.
Treasurer Monica Coffey called the parish "strong and resolute" as she reported the success of the Ministries Growth Offering and the overall financial health of the parish. 2009 pledges increased by13% and projected giving by 24% over last year. photos
Carlie Wetzel Wins Contest
Parishoner Carlie Wetzel has won first place in a Peace Essay contest at Hempfield High School. Contestants were asked to write about how to promote peace in their communities.

Vacation Bible School (VBS)
This summer Saint James is sharing VBS with our Duke Street neighbor Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. It will be held Monday through Thursday, August 10 - 13 at Holy Trinity, 31 South Duke Street. Each night dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m. followed by the program from 6:00 to 8:15. Children, grandchildren friends and neighbors are all welcome. For more information and/or registration forms contact the church office at 397-4858 or click here.
Look for several new icons in the back of the church in coming weeks. We also are looking for a pricket stand to place near the baptismal font, similar to the one now in the rear of the chapel. These small and non-permanent modifications are meant to enhance the worship, prayer, and meditative experience of those entering the building.
Any proposed changes to the church interior will be shared with the parish in the coming months. Your feedback will be invited and welcomed prior to any permanent physical changes to church buildings.
The St. James Scholarship Committee, chaired by Father John, has awarded nearly $13,000 in grants to support the educational goals of 15 parishioners. The money comes from generous contributions to the Endowment Fund.
Receiving scholarships were: Julie Bailey, Chris Bruce, Jonathan Bruce, Katie Fry, Matthew Fry, Izzy Hoffer, Julianne Keys, Ryan Keys, Andrew Killough, William Kumer, Henry Linder, Abigail Pease, Ben Pease, Julie Salvano and Hurst Renner.

The Lord Be With You
Grant O God, that your holy and life-giving Spirit may so move every human heart,
That barriers which divide us may crumble, suspicions disappear, and hatreds cease;
That our divisions being healed, we may live in justice and peace;
Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
