Episcopal Relief and Development's Mandate
Matthew 25: 37-40 (NRSV)
"For I was hungry and you gave me food,
I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink,
I was a stranger and you welcomed me,
I was naked and you gave me clothing,
I was sick and you took care of me,
I was in prison and you visited me...
Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the
Least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me."
Episcopal Relief and Development responds to human suffering around the world providing emergency assistance after disasters, rebuilding communities, and helping children and families climb out of poverty.
Disasters - whether man-made or natural - happen all the time. When they strike, ERD helps people by supplying food, water, and medicine immediately. They protect vulnerable people from further suffering, especially women, children, and the elderly.
Hurricanes, earthquakes, and other catastrophes leave people with nothing. ERD works hand-in hand with local communities to build new homes, plant crops, create clean water systems, construct clinics and schools and offer critical post trauma counseling.
In many places in the world, people can't feed their families or give them basic health care. Through ERD's food security and primary health care program, they provide farming and business training, health care services, and HIV/AIDS programs in communities where families are struggling to survive. They give people the tools to earn an income and create opportunities for their children.
