MINISTER OF STEWARDSHIP

Bud Hartley

The Rev. Dr. Loyde Hartley serves as Minister of Stewardship at Saint James. Bud, as he is known to us, and his wife, Carol, have been active members of Saint James since 1994.

Bud retired from Lancaster Theological Seminary in Spring 2008 where he had been Professor of Religion and Society since 1971. He is an ordained minister in the United Methodist Church. We rejoice that he was confirmed on Dec. 21, 2008 at Saint Paul's, Harrisburg and will become a member of the Episcopal Church.

From 2003-2008 Bud served as honorary ecumenical associate at Saint James. He was a familiar face in the pulpit and regularly volunteers at the Anchorage Breakfast Program, coordinating staffing for the program on holidays. Recently Bud has also chaired the Social Action Commission.

Dr Hartley brings a wealth of experience and wisdom to Saint James in the field of stewardship and church finances. He has done research, written books and numerous articles in the field.

As Minister of Stewardship, he will coordinate and oversee all activities related to this aspect of parish life, in conjunction with the Vestry Stewardship Committee, for which Patti Woolworth is the liaison. He will be responsible for developing an annual schedule of stewardship activities, including the annual giving campaign, communicating planned giving opportunities and options, and teaching the concept of stewardship as part of living out our baptismal vows and strengthening the mission of the church.
